About Kennesaw State University

Kennesaw State University commonly referred to as simply KSU, Kennesaw or Kennesaw State, is a public coeducational, comprehensive university, with the main campus located in Kennesaw, which is a city in Cobb County, in the US state of Georgia, with a population estimated at a number of more than 30 000 inhabitants, during the 2007 census.

KSU was officially founded in October, 1963, as Cobb County Junior College, being officially named Kennesaw State University, on June 12, 1996, after having its name changed several times over the past years. Since it was founded, KSU has grown, being today the 3rd largest university in the state, having an enrollment of more than 20 000 students, being well-known for its academic programs in education, nursing and business.

KSU’s 240-acre campus is home to the largest Educational Technology Training Center (ETTC) in the state, one of the only 13 around the state, also housing the Continuing Education, which is the largest on the nation, located just 1 mile away from campus. The university consists of 8 colleges, through which it offers its students 43 bachelor’s, 2 doctoral programs and 16 master’s degree programs, among which there are: the Bagwell College of Education, the WellStar College of Health and Human Services and the College of Science & Mathematics.

The athletic teams from KSU are known as Kennesaw State Owls, who compete in the NCAA Division I Atlantic Sun Conference (and previously Division II Peach Belt Conference), in various sports, being best known for their achievements in basketball, which also represents KSU’s biggest sports program. The Owls have experienced victory many times in the past years, winning several NCAA Division II National Championships, including one in ’96, in baseball, in 2004, in men’s basketball in 2004 and 2005 in cheerleading and in 2003, in women’s soccer.

The list of notable KSU alumni contains resonant names such as Doug Stoner - Georgia State Senator, Ken Burris - First COO of the United States Fire Administration, Cindy Bowden - U.S. Olympian, Ty Pennington - host of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and TLC’s Trading Spaces, as well as several other people, who have made themselves notable in various fields, after graduation.
